Black Lives Matters – Flint is a community-based organization that seeks to empower Black individuals, whole families, and urban communities. Black Lives Matters – Flint is a grassroots organization focused on education, civic duties, advocacy, public health, neighborhood revitalization, and entrepreneurship. We seek to collaborate with organizations and service providers to develop systemic programs and special projects. We shall at all times be operated exclusively for the purpose of receiving and administering funds for the charitable purposes as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Review Law.) All funds, whether income or principal, and whether acquired by gift or contribution or otherwise, shall be devoted to said mission.
The purpose of this program is to allow offenders the chance to accept responsibility for any wrongdoings, crimes, delinquencies, and harm they may have caused. We emphasize accountability by making amends between the victim and offender through positive engagements and conflict resolution. The goal of this obligation is to establish a foundation built on corrective action in behavior, intent, and outcome. This leads to transformation of people, cultivates working relationships, and ultimately brings community and government together to address crime.
Key Principles:
1. Prison/jail is not for everybody. Sometimes we have to look into a person’s circumstances to understand how we can utilize our resources and better serve an offender. If you steal to feed your family, the individual may need an opportunity and/or training to get a job.
2. Crimes cause harm to people and the community as a whole; and restorative justice focuses on repairing that harm between all parties involved.
3. The people (victim/offender) most affected by the crime are the “key stakeholders” and are strongly encouraged to participate in its resolution.
4. The responsibility of the government and the community is to maintain order, protection, and peace.
The purpose of this initiative is establishing a group of community members willing to promote peace and protect the neighborhoods. Our mission is to resolve issues strategically and create a positive environment for our residents. Members will be trained in conflict resolution and participate in gorilla combat training. We are also providing CPL training and certificates for the membership.
